The purpose of the High-Performance half day camp is to prepare goaltenders for the upcoming tryouts for Midget/Junior training camps or High-Performance Program (HPP) camp with Hockey NL.
During the camp, goalies will receive fourteen (14) hours of on-ice instruction and ten (10) hours of off-ice instruction. Spaces will be very limited as we will only be allowing goaltenders, who are competing for AAA teams or who will be attending the Hockey NL HPP camp.
The main focus for the High-Performance camp will be on situational game drills to enable goalies to react, select and execute proper saves. We want our goaltenders to be challenged by every shot from our elite shooters so that we are pushing them to reach their full potential and to make them highly competitive for upcoming training camps or Hockey NL HPP camp.
Goaltenders will also have two (2) hours focused on puck handling and (2)power skating.
Being prepared for training camps like the Hockey NL HPP camp requires good habits off the ice.
For the off-ice sessions, goaltenders will attend goalie classrooms, presentations and off-ice training.
Goalie classrooms will focus on analyzing the tactical part of the game using NHL video examples as we want our goaltenders to understand how NHL goalies think and read the game. As a group we will also review videos of games with detailed breakdowns of game situations, analyzing what went right or wrong.
The High-Performance camp will have presentations on topics like: hydration and nutrition, social media, sleep, and mental game.
Off-ice training will be coordinated by certificated instructor and will be designed for goaltenders, which will include goalie-specific workouts and injury prevention exercises/stretches.
Every participant will be treated like an elite goaltender and will be expected to participate as an elite goaltender. Groups will be kept small for personalization and to ensure a high intensity practice.
