Questions parents ask
Cancellations and payment
- 24 hours notice: cancel or move your session at least 24 hours before the start time and there is no charge.
- Late cancellation or no show: with less than 24 hours notice the session is charged in full, because the ice and coach are already booked.
- Illness or injury: tell us as soon as you know and we will do our best to find a new time.
- If we cancel: if we have to cancel because of ice or coach availability, you choose a new time or a full refund.
- Payment: payment is due before the session. We send the invoice with your confirmed time.
- Packages: the 5 session package is paid up front and is valid for 3 months from the first session.
Who teaches private goalie lessons at Shield Goaltending?
Private lessons are taught by Marek Benda, founder and head coach of Shield Goaltending and goaltending coach of the Newfoundland Regiment (QMJHL), or by a Shield instructor trained in the same system.
How much does a private goalie lesson cost?
A 50 minute private lesson costs $140 with Marek Benda or $120 with a Shield instructor. A package of 5 sessions with a Shield instructor costs $550. Prices are plus tax.
Where are private goalie lessons held?
Sessions take place at Capital Hyundai Arena or St. Bon's Forum in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.
When are private sessions available?
Monday to Thursday at 6:00 AM, 6:50 AM, 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM, and Friday at 6:00 AM and 6:50 AM.

Goaltenders of all ages and abilities, from young goalies learning the basics to competitive players preparing for the next level.
How do I book a private goalie lesson?
Send the request form on this page with your goalie details and preferred times. We reply by email with available ice times and your coach.
What is the cancellation policy?
Sessions can be cancelled or moved for free with at least 24 hours notice. With less than 24 hours notice, or a no show, the session is charged in full.
How long is the 5 session package valid?
The 5 session package is paid up front and is valid for 3 months from the first session.
